Overview
Turkey, a 70-million country with its unique geographic location around the
globe, has been subject to ground-breaking economic reforms in the last three
decades. At the beginning of 1980’s, the Turkish economy was a relatively closed
one: Import and export were limited. Foreign direct investment was a legend.
There used to be too many state-owned enterprises and so on.
Things started to change at the beginning of 1980’s. The foreign currency regime
has been revolutionized. Subsidies have been gradually abrogated. Foreign trade
has been liberalized. In addition, the Turkish government, which came to power in 1983,
reinforced this wind of change resulting in the Turkish economy being
westernized in a couple of years.
Before 1980’s, attorneyship in Turkey had been a profession which is mostly
carried out in small offices as sole practitioner. Besides, the provision of
legal services in foreign languages was extremely rare. The aforementioned
economic reforms have triggered the need in the Turkish market for legal
practitioners having a corporate vision and mastering especially the English
language. All these circumstances gave birth to a number of “law firms” in
1980’s. The development of the Turkish economy throughout the last years of the
20th and specifically the first years of the 21st century paralleled the growing
of such firms. Nowadays, although there is still not any “big law firm” in
Turkey, legal service in the Western sense is an abundant product in the market.
In light of the above, AKDOĞAN | USLAŞ is a Turkish law firm fulfilling all
requirements of modern business life and thus providing its clients with
premium-quality legal services. Prior to founding AKDOĞAN | USLAŞ, the firm’s
partners all have worked at Turkish or foreign law firms whose clienteles are
composed of globally-operating companies. The latter enables AKDOĞAN | USLAŞ to
predict the expectations of such companies and deliver attorney work products beyond
those expectations.
