Overview
Turkey, a 70-million country with its unique geographic location around the
globe, has been subject to ground-breaking economic reforms in the last three
decades. At the beginning of 1980’s, the Turkish economy was a relatively closed
one: Import and export were limited. Foreign direct investment was a legend.
There used to be too many state-owned enterprises and so on.
Things started to change at the beginning of 1980’s. The foreign currency regime
has been revolutionized. Subsidies have been gradually abrogated. Foreign trade
has been liberalized. In addition, the Turkish government, which came to power in 1983,
